Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of using a national firm?

Unmatched experience, clout and resources. AU lawyers can call on other AU lawyers from across the country who have worked on cases similar to yours. Insurance companies often employ teams of lawyers to avoid paying injured victims the compensation they deserve. An AU attorney also has access to teams of lawyers who are ready to help. There is strength in numbers, and you should have that kind of advantage working for you, too.

Is a national firm too big? I’m concerned that I will just be a number.

No, not when power of a national firm is delivered with local expertise and compassion. Your AU lawyer is part of your local community but is backed by the power that comes with a national law firm. You will never be just a number. We understand and appreciate what you are going through and the toll it has taken on your life. Your AU lawyer understands that holding someone accountable for what happened to you is what keeps them and their families safe as well. When you or a loved one has been injured, you want and deserve to be helped by someone local you can trust. Someone available to you. Someone who understands you and your community. Someone who also has access to the resources and clout necessary to truly help you.

Do you represent insurance companies?

Never. We only represent individuals like you, never big companies. Fighting to protect individuals against greedy insurance and other big companies is what we do, what we are passionate about and believe in.

Why have your lawyers teach others how to try cases?

Two reasons: First, we believe in the importance of what we do – holding wrongdoers accountable and protecting our communities. Teaching others how to do that is important to us. Second, it helps us getter better at what we do. The preparation and practice that go into being able to teach other lawyers how to try cases makes us better at trying ours.

I don’t want to go to trial; do I have to if I hire Advocates United?

No. You are in charge of your case, no one can force you to go to trial but sometimes going to trial is the only way you can get the compensation you deserve and hold those who hurt you accountable. Often, the willingness and ability to go to trial is what prompts the other side to settle a case. That is why you want to make sure that your lawyer has experience going to trial.

This looks very expensive to me, what does it cost to hire an Advocates United attorney?

We don’t get paid unless we are successful on your behalf. This is called a “contingent fee” and all of our work representing injured individuals and their loved ones is done this way unless the client requests otherwise.

Why do you say you’re a different type of law firm?

The heart of our firm is our trial lawyers. Most lawyers, even many who do the work we do, never go to trial. We believe the willingness and ability to go to trial is critical to protecting our clients, holding wrongdoers accountable and protecting our communities. Also, we believe that our clients need and deserve to know about what is happening in their case so that they can make informed decisions. It’s your case.
